Peter Michael DiFoggio Sr., age 84, died Friday morning, February 15, at his Tewksbury home, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Broadbridge) DiFoggio, with whom he had celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary this past October 19th.
He was born in Needham, on January 30, 1924, the son of the late Nicolo and Rose (Sciarappa) DiFoggio. He was raised in Wilmington, and lived in Everett before returning to Wilmington where he graduated from Wilmington High School.
He enlisted into the Army Air Corps during WWII, and became an aircraft mechanic in the 19th Bombardment Group, servicing B-29's. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific War Theater, before his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1946. He earned the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Campaign Ribbon, and a Distinguished Unit Badge.
He moved his family to Tewksbury in 1965.
He retired in 1988, as Shop Foreman for the Hogan Tire Company in Woburn, after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the former Tewksbury Sons of Italy Club, and the former Town Travelers Square Dance Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Peter Michael DiFoggio Jr., of Billerica; two daughters, Gail A. Spencer and Lisa M. Gagnon both of Tewksbury; his mother-in-law, Madeline Broadbridge of Exeter, NH; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Josephine DiFoggio.
At his request, funeral services were private.
