Stephen Patrick Haluga Sr., 73, of Mystic, passed away Monday at Groton Regency.
Mr. Haluga was born in Aliquippa, PA on July 7, 1934 the son of Matthew and Mary (Novagradie) Haluga. After receiving his education, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until his discharge in 1957 when he was awarded the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals.
He enjoyed a 35 year career with Electric Boat before retiring as a Senior Designer in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Mystic.
He was married to Loretta Crandall Haluga on December 21, 1957. Mrs. Haluga died on March 3, 1977.
He is survived by his children, Lori P. Holt and husband Joseph of Mystic, Teri Brunski and husband Dan of No. Stonington, Stephen Haluga Jr. and wife Ellen of Groton, Robert Haluga of Tampa, FL, Mary Ann Haluga of Groton, and Kathleen Svedarsky and husband Brent of Lebanon; a sister, Barbara Haluga of PA; 7 grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Elisabeth.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 9am-9:45am, immediately followed by a service at 10am. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New London.
