Alphonse Cabral, age 84 of Fall River. Son of the late Manuel M. & Maria (Souza Mello) Cabral. Passed away in Fall River Feb. 11, 2008. Known by many, Mr. Cabral was a selfless, gentle man of impeccable moral character. He lived an honest life of constant unyielding devotion to friends and family. He was bountiful in generosity, non-judgemental in nature, and droll in humor. In life, never idle in thought or action and always eager to bear the burden of others. Mr. Cabral exemplified the path God intended for us all to walk.
He was a lifelong Fall River resident, a member of the former Our Lady of Health, now Espirito Santo Church. He served in the U.S. Army as a Radio Operator during WW II. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Maplewood Little League, & C.Y.O. He was also the Vice President of the South End Athletic Club. Before retiring, he was a U.S. Postal worker for 28 years.
He is survived by nephews: Joseph & Richard Alvernaz, Anthony, Tom, Vincent & John Cabral; nieces: Patricia Powers, Evelyn Mylander, Mary Louise Davis & Deborah Morrell; Dear Friend: Jeanne Lifrak; brother-in-law Jose Alvernaz & his wife Francelina; 2 sisters-in-law: Sarah & Susan Cabral; l Aunt: Mrs. Bill (Evelyn) Larrivee. He was brother of the late Agostinho, Vincent, Galdinho & Evelyn Cabral & Mary Delores Alvernaz. Uncle of the late Evelyn Alvernaz-Lopes.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Thursday at 8 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in Espirito Santo Church at 9 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5-9 PM. In lieu flowers, donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or American Diabetes Association, P.O.
