John Francis Miller, 78 of Franklin died February 8 in the Franklin Skilled Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Barbara (Sanders) Miller.
Born in Malden, November 25, 1929 the son of the late Otto and Frances (Miske) Miller, Mr. Miller grew up in Malden and Natick and had lived in Wayland for 41 years prior to moving to Franklin nine years ago.
Mr. Miller had worked for Wellesley College for 54 years before retiring.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Natick Meridian Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Fairs’ N Squares square dance club.
Mr. Miller enjoyed square dancing, bowling, model trains and collecting turtle figurines.
Mr. Miller served in the Air Force during the Korean War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later served 18 years as a member of the Air Force Reserves.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Sandra J. Sharp of Franklin and his son, Steven F. Miller and his fiancée, Beth of Franklin.
He is also survived by his sister, Ethel Phillips and her husband, Mickey of Ohio.
Mr. Miller is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael , his wife, Jessica and Derrick, Brett and Corey and his great-grandchildren, Jessie, Nathan, Zachary and Michael Jr.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 16 in the United Methodist Church of Franklin at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be held, with full military honors, on Friday, February 15 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:15 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, Mass. 02472. Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St., Franklin.
