WEBSTER – Jennie B. (Halko) Claprood, 93, formerly of Maynard Avenue, died Saturday, February 9, in Overlook Masonic Health Center, Charlton. Her husband of 57 years, Ernest F. Claprood, died in 1991.
She leaves 2 sons, Paul E. Claprood and his wife Dorothy of Shelby, NC, and Donald “Butch” Claprood and his wife Jean of Holden; 2 daughters, Mary Ernestine Therrien and her husband Robert of Osterville and Joan M. Claprood of Charlton; 2 brothers, Dr. Henry Halko of Brookline and Ronald Halko of Amherst; a sister, Teresa Kaliszewski of Webster; 13 grandchildren: 13 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Halko, and by her sisters Stella Rizzo, Sophie Bastolla and Nellie “Jean” Spahl.
She was born and raised in Worcester, the oldest of the 8 children of Alexander and Anna (Kulbacki) Halko. She moved to Webster where she lived most of her life.
Family was her greatest treasure. She will be fondly remembered for her excellent cooking and the joy it brought to everyone who knew her. She worked as a stitcher at local mills before she retired. She was a member of Saint Louis Church.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 13, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours are from 5:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 12, and from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Wednesday, February 13, in the funeral home.
