WORCESTER-Edwin J. Reavey, Sr., 99, of Worcester passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6th in his home. His beloved wife of 53 years, Helen M. (Monahan) Reavey died on the same date in 1994. He leaves his daughter, Eileen M.(Reavey) wife of Robert T. Mittelholzer of Dover, NH; a daughter- in-law, Sandra K. Reavey of McLean, VA; and two grandsons, Robert T. Mittelholzer, Jr. and Brian E. Mittelholzer. His son, Edwin J. Reavey, Jr. and a granddaughter, Kathleen A. Mittelholzer predeceased him.
He was born in Spencer on October 18, 1908, the son of Frank and Mary (Fitzpatrick) Reavey and had lived in Worcester for most of his life. Mr. Reavey was a graduate of David Prouty High School and attended the College of the Holy Cross, Class of 1933. He was employed by Dunlop Tire and Rubber Company and Apex Tire and Auto Supply Company as a store manager before establishing his own business, State Tire Company, in 1946 which he owned and operated for 38 years.
Mr. Reavey was a decorated World War II veteran serving with the 30th Combat Division and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Holy Cross Club of Greater Worcester, the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
The funeral is Friday, February 15th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, February 14th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
