Obituary

Barbara L. (Cobbett) MaDan, 83 years of Brockton, died unexpectedly February 6, 2008 at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. She was the loving wife of the late Melvin “Buddy” L. MaDan. She was born and raised in Whitman, growing up on High and Beulah Streets through the depression and WW II. She was the daughter of the late Philip W. and Florence A. (Chase) Cobbett. Barbara was a heel tacker for the Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Company in Whitman for 28 years and retired in 1971.
She had a passion for animals and was known to feed all the local cats, dogs, birds and squirrels; her favorite cats being “Kitty” and “Butchy”. She was great supporter of the MSPCA in Brockton.
Barbara was a life long artist who painted and sketched, often making hand drawings and greeting cards to send to family and friends. She also enjoyed dinning out, dancing, playing bingo, and spending time at the beach and family cottage in Eastham. She loved to talk and enjoyed a good laugh and to reminisce of a trip she and her husband Buddy won to Florida from a local restaurant they often frequented and time spent with her sisters of which she was very close. Barbara will be sorely missed by all.
She is survived by her sister, Lois M. Buckley of Wareham and eight nieces and nephews as well as other relatives. She was the sister of the late Ruth E. Collins.
