Obituary

Dorothea “Dotty” (Engel) Brimblecom Gregg, formerly of Needham and East Orleans, MA, died on Wednesday February 6 at her home peacefully after a valiant fight with Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) and finally kidney failure. She was 76.

Born in Newton in 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Alma (Haffermehl) Engel. She graduated from Newton High School and attended Lasell Junior College. A resident of Needham for 34 years she volunteered at Glover Hospital and was on a long time member of Needham’s Congregational Church choir as well as the Alter Guild. She loved to sing, was an avid tennis player and a voracious reader (with her latest favorite author being Jodi Picoult). Before becoming a long time member of the Needham Pool and Racquet Club, she spent most of her summers in Brewster, MA. She played golf, loved to be in the garden and was a force to be reckoned with at the bridge table. She considered all of her animals, through the years, to be her children and donated money regularly to the Humane Society and the World Wildlife Fund.

Wife of the late Leverett “Monk” Brimblecom (died 1984), she remarried the late Paul H. Gregg and moved to East Orleans. Dotty was a Florida “snow bird” and spent 20 years enjoying her winters in Naples.

Dotty is survived by her 2 daughters Lee B. Gosciminski and her husband Mark of Easton, Amy B. Smith and her husband Ken of Sherborn, her son Scott D. Brimblecom of Plymouth, 2 granddaughters Stephanie A. Blanchard and husband Jim of Taunton and Cameron Smith (15 months) of Sherborn and 3 great-grand sons Alex, Brandon and Cole.

A memorial service will be held on Monday February 11 at 11am at the Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which includes Multiple Myeloma. www.lls.org or 9 Erie Drive, Suite 101, Natick, MA 01760
