Obituary

James G. Proulx Sr., 81, of 30 Cross St., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at UMass Medical Center, Worcester, following a long illness. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. (McCudden) Proulx.

Born in Franklin, June 27, 1926, a son of the late Isaac W. Chick and Mildred (Dauphinee) Proulx, he lived in Franklin for most of his life, having lived in Whitinsville for 11 years.

He was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School. Mr. Proulx was a retired compositor, having worked for more than 40 years for the Hearst Newspaper Co.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He attained the rank of private first class, and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in January 1947.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Council No. 1847 Knights of Columbus in Franklin, the Franklin Rod and Gun Club, the International Typographical Union, the Franklin Senior Citizens, the American Association of Retired Persons and was a communicant of St. Mary Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years are three sons, James G. Proulx Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Franklin, John R. Proulx and his wife, Laurie, of Ashburn, Va., Stephen M. Proulx and his wife, Christine, of Medway; a daughter, Ann M. Doyle of Franklin; a sister, Leona Brackett of New Harbor, Maine; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Patricia M. Warren and Judith L. Miller, and the brother of the late Marjorie Abbott.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Saturday, at 10:15 a.m., from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., (www.franklinfuneral.com), with a funeral Mass in St. Mary Church at 11 a.m. Interment is private.

Calling hours are Friday, February 8, 2008, 4 to 8 p.m.
