Hyman Goren, a resident of Delray Beach, FL & formerly of Winthrop & Revere, entered into rest on February 4, 2008 at the Delray Medical Center. He was 91 years old.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Barnett & Molly (Goren) Goren, Mr. Goren was raised in Revere where he attended school & graduated from Revere High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on June 30, 1942 at Ft. Devens, MA & served with the Company E 1301st Eng. Gen. Service Regiment during WWII. Mr. Goren fought in battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, & Central Europe. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, & the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Technician 5th grade on December 31, 1945 at Ft. Devens, MA. Upon returning from military service, Mr. Goren began his career as a plumber & was employed for many years at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans.
Husband of the late Celia (Govenor) Goren who entered into rest in 1994, Mr. Goren is survived by his devoted son, Michael Goren of Winthrop; his longtime companion, Lee Glick of Newton; & his nieces & nephew, Marilyn Gillis, Susan Strock, Ted Weiner, & Joyce Ganham. He was the brother of the late Benny Goren, Lena Weiner, Tillie Newman, & Annie Friedman.
Mr. Goren's funeral service will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq) CHELSEA on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Rabbi Howard Kosovske will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Tifereth Israel of Winthrop Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Shiva will be held in Florida.
