Mr. William Nile Carleton, a lifelong resident of Medford, died at the Brighten Nursing Center in Medford on February 5, 2008, following a lengthy illness. He was 85 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on September 15, 1922, he was a beloved son of the late Thomas F. and Alice T. (McDowell) Carleton. Mr. Carleton was a graduate of the Medford Public School system, class of 1941. Bill was a WWII Army veteran, entering the service at Boston, Massachusetts, on December 11, 1942, and received his honorable discharge from Fort Bragg on October 23, 1945. While in the Army, Mr. Carleton earned the rank of Private First Class and was awarded four bronze stars as well as a good conduct medal, for his outstanding service. He was a member of the VFW as well as the American Legion for many years. Mr. Carleton was employed for the US Postal Service, South Postal, for more than 27 years until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Carleton will be sorely missed by on loving sister; Nancy Cameron of Medford, one loving brother; Thomas F. and his wife Dorothy Carleton of West Springfield, sister-in-law; Susan Carleton of West Yarmouth and many nieces and nephews. He was also the devoted brother of the late Barbara Morse, Robert Carleton and Richard Carleton.
His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday, February 8, 2008 at noon. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visitation was Friday, February 8, 2008, prior to the service, from 10 to 12. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. For additional information, please visit, www.magliozzifuneralhome.com.
