John J. Scialoia, Jr., 83

John J. Scialoia, Jr., 83, a lifelong resident of Mansfield died on Tuesday February 5, 2008 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Center in Norton.
Born in Mansfield on June 8, 1924 he was a loving son of the late John J. and Annie (Abato) Scialoia, Sr.
He grew up in Mansfield, was educated in Mansfield schools and was a member of the Class of 1942. A proud and loyal veteran John served in the United States Air Force from 1943-1945 during WWII before being honorably discharged.
Mr. Scialoia was a retired Custodian and had been employed over 20 years for the Mansfield Public School System prior to retiring. He had formerly worked for the former Mansfield Bleachery for many years.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield he had also attended the First Christian Church in West Mansfield and was a member and past commander of the DAV. Affectionately known as “Santa” Johnny was a person who was always there to lend a helping hand to others in need, active in veterans affairs he was a true Patriot who took great pride in his country and looked forward too and enjoyed helping out at the annual Memorial Day fund raiser at Stop & Shop in Mansfield.
He especially loved being in the presence of his devoted family, he will always be remembered as the family photographer, chauffeur and for his informal driving classes and the fun he had teaching his younger family members how to drive.
He was the dear brother of Mary A. Hall of Mansfield and the late Fanny Maynard, he was the beloved uncle of Cristine Pfeil and her husband Joe, Carolyn Santos and her husband Bob, Joan Maynard, Steve Maynard, Nancy Maynard and the late Gregory Hall, Jody Hall and Laura Maynard, also surviving are many cherished great nieces and nephews and his longtime friend and companion Jane Vandenkerckhoven.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday February 9th at 9:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday February 8th from 4-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
