Obituary

Glenn Earl Whitham died on Monday, February 4th at his home surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old. Glenn was born in Boston, the son of the late Glenn S. and Edlie (Moore) Whitham, he grew up in Quincy. He was a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of technology n 1942 with a BS in electrical engineering. After two years of work at the MIT radiation lab, he was invited to Los Alamos to serve as a top Engineer on the Manhattan Project. After the war, he returned to Massachusetts and was employed for many years by Raytheon. A longtime Wayland resident, Glenn was known locally as the proprietor of Wayland TV, doing television and satellite work around town in his grey van. He had also been a member of the Wayland Auxiliary Police force. Glenn was very proud of his ability to pilot small planes. He had owned an Aircoup and a Cessna, and was a member of AOPA. He always challenged his mind to stray on the cutting edge of technology, and to envision and create new technology. A Jack of all trades, able to fix most anything, he kept hobbies such as building ham radios and later computers. Glenn also loved music and played the piano and organ. His genres were classical and progressive jazz.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Clara (DeAmicis), whom he married in 1952. Glenn is also survived by his beautiful daughter Kathy Whitham and her husband Tom Sharkey of New York and his three grandchildren Christa Haberstroh of Portland ME and Elisabeth and John Haberstroh of New York
A Memorial Service will be held at the Westgate Church, 100 Winter Street, Weston on Friday, Feb. 8 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Thursday from 4-7PM. Interment services will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland on Friday morning at 9:30. In lieu of flowers donations in Glenn’s name may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, 44 Binney St Boston MA 02215.
