John C. Rosenfeld Retired Custom BuilderJohn C. Rosenfeld 94, a Needham resident for 56 years died Thursday January 30th at the Skilled Nursing Facility at North Hill. Born in Somerville John grew up in Waban. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1933 where excelled in hockey and was captain of their hockey team. He continued his education and graduated from Boston University Law School in 1936 where he also enjoyed playing hockey. For over 25 years John was a custom homebuilder building many homes in Needham including the parsonage of the Carter Church, also in Dover, Newton ,Wellesley, and Dedham Precinct 1. In 1971 he became the Building Inspector for the town of Needham until 1984 and in 1985 John went to Dover as their building inspector until his retirement in 1994. John was a former town Meeting Member for the town of Needham. He was active at the Carter Church in their bowling league and Men’s Club. Member of Massachusetts Building Commissioners and Inspectors Assoc. , Southeastern Massachusetts Building Officials Assoc. and the Needham Retired Men’s Club. John is survived by his loving wife Janet (Walker) of 61 years, loving father of James C. , of Boston , Janet R. MacLeod of Needham, John M. of Mount Desert Maine and Jordan S. Rosenfeld of Seattle Washington. Brother of Dorothy Dyer of Raleigh NC. John was also the grandfather of Bradford T. MacLeod, Peter J., Eric M., Elizabeth W. Rosenfeld and the late Elizabeth W. MacLeod. A memorial service will be held at the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church 800 Highland Ave. Needham on Tuesday Feb. 4th at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers memorials in John’s memory may be made to the Carter memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund and the Needham Community Council 51 Lincoln St. Needham MA 02492.
