Obituary

Bertha D. HOWARD, 64, of Mineral Spring Avenue, a teacher assistant for the Providence School Department until retirement, died Sunday at Hopkins Manor in North Providence.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Edward and Anna (DeWolfe) Crowell, she lived in Providence and Harmony before moving to North Providence several years ago.
Ms. Howard was a former member of the Laurel Grange and a member of the Mineral Spring Gardens Tenant Assn.
She is survived by her children, Edward A. Howard and his wife Julia of Harmony, Deborah L. Read and her husband Gordon of Foster and Stephanie A. Porter and her husband Craig of North Providence, a sister, Karen Waskiel of North Providence. She was the grandmother of Brett, Nicole, Rebecca, Taylor and Mitchell. She was the sister of the late Patricia Maltais and Mildred R. Plante-Parent.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 11am in the Chapel at Highland Memorial Park, Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston. Relatives and friends are welcome to express condolences to family from 10-11am in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Hopkins Manor Activity Fund, 610 Smithfield Road, North Providence, RI 02904.
