SHREWSBURY-Andrew F. Fanion , Sr., 80 of 11 Elizabeth Street died Friday, January 31 in the St. Vincent Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center, Worcester after an illness.
He leaves his wife of, L. June (Hardy) Fanion; three sons, Andrew F. Fanion, Jr. of Navarre, Fla., Robert A. Fanion of Worcester and Walter J. Fanion of Auburn; three daughters, Cynthia M. DeCelle and Ann M. Simpson both of Southbridge and Alice M. Martini of Sturbridge; two sisters, Joan Day of Keene, NH and Edna Fanion of Auburn; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.. His first wife, Gertrude (West) Fanion died in 1981. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Mary Carmelin, Emma Dziczek and Vivian Mariano.
He was born in Leicester, the son of the late Frank F. and Blanche E. (Vinck) Fanion and was raised in Auburn. He later lived in Worcester for many years before moving to Shrewsbury 20 years ago. He graduated from Auburn High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Fanion worked for the F & G. Construction Company, Shrewsbury for 40 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Worcester and was a former member of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post in Auburn.
His funeral will be held on Monday, February 3 from the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., www.brittonfuneralhomes.com) Auburn with a Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
Calling hours at the funeral hoem are Sunday, February 2 from 5-8 PM.
