Obituary

Harold W. Woodcock, M.D., 83, of Fairhaven died January 31, 2003 at Brandon Woods Nursing Home after a short illness.

He was the husband of the late Joan M. (Waite) Woodcock and son of the late Captain Alfred Woodcock and Elizabeth (Harding) Woodcock.

Dr. Woodcock was born and raised in Fairhaven, and graduated from Fairhaven High School Class of 1937. He also was a graduate of the Harvard University Class of 1941 and received his M.D. and C.M. medical degrees from McGill University of Montreal, Canada, Class of 1944. After medical school, internship and residency he served in the US Air Force as a Flight Surgeon serving at Randolph Field during the Korean conflict.

After establishing an Ear, Eye, Nose and Throat medical practice in New Bedford in the early 50's, Dr. Woodcock was twice named president of the New Bedford Medical Society, and president of the Bristol County Mass Medical Society twice. In addition, he served on the staff of St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford, MA and for six years as their Chief of Staff.

An avid golfer and sailor, he was a member of the Country Club of New Bedford for over fifty years serving as president on two occasions and formerly a member of the Plantations Country Club in Venice, FL where he spent winters during his retirement. He was also a former member of the New Bedford Yacht Club.

Survivors include 2 sons, H. William H. Woodcock of Easton, Maine, Kinder W. Woodcock of South Dartmouth; 3 daughters, Elizabeth Joan Flaherty of Mattapoisett, Deborah Ann Cortes of Ft. Myers, Fl. and Pamela M. Forst of Punta Gorda, FL; 9 grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Ernest Woodcock and Mary Woodcock Osborne.

His Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 2nd at 12:15 PM in Grace Episcopal Church, 422 County St., New Bedford. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven will be private.
