Sara Kitty Striplin Cooper, 97, of Tifton died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Tift Health Care. A private family graveside service is planned.
Mrs. Cooper was born on December 10, 1910 in Pine Log and was the daughter of Ephraim Striplin and Allowee Nelson Striplin, whose parents and grandparents were early settlers in that part of North Georgia, having moved there in the 1850s, coming from South Carolina. At the age of nine, she moved to South Georgia with her family and resided in Colquitt County before moving to Tift County in 1937. She was a graduate of Moultrie High School, class of 1929.
In the younger years of her life, Mrs. Cooper was an excellent seamstress and developed a love for antiques and home decoration. Even into her early 90s, she pursued these hobbies, as well as bird-watching and clipping flowers from her yard to enjoy in her home. She was a member of the 20th Century Library Club of Tifton for over 40 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tifton, where she enjoyed attending Sunday School until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Brooks Cooper, to whom she was married in 1937; her only son, Ronald Keith Cooper; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Striplin McMillan and D. Ray McMillan; a brother, Harol Nelson Striplin; a son-in-law, Claude M. Davis; and a grandson, Richard M. Davis.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by one daughter, Ann Davis of Tifton; four grandchildren, Howard Brooks "Dave" Davis, Bonne Davis Cella, Sara Ann Cooper Poole, and Rhonda Cooper Nance; 11 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Atwood Striplin of Moultrie.
