Obituary

Robert T. Gardiner, 71, of Wolf Hill Road, a postmaster for the US Postal Service before retiring in 1991, died peacefully, Sunday, February 3, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Muriel Elizabeth (Tisdale) Gardiner.
Born in Exeter, he was a resident of North Kingstown, Arkansas and Smithfield. Mr. Gardiner started as a postal carrier in North Kingstown in 1960, was promoted to superintendent of operations in 1967 and became post master in Greenville in 1980. He was the former owner of Corner Tavern and Resturant in North Kingstown, a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Exeter Grange, and a former Mason. He had also been a projectionist at local movie theatres. He loved carpentry, gardening and RVing.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children Gregory R. Gardiner of Exeter, Sharon L. Angelone of Smithfield, and Brenda J. Habershaw and her husband Jim of Coventry, three grandchildren, Brittney, Peter and Alyssa, his siblings, Herbert, Donald, Ida May and Mabel. He was the brother of the late Walter, Claire, Pardon, Marion and Betty.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 12:00 Noon in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to VNS of Greater RI, 6 Blackstone Valley Place, Suite 515, Lincoln, RI 02865.
