Aaron Harry Karas, a lifelong resident of Chelsea, entered into eternal rest on February 3, 2008 at the Haven Health Care Facility in Chelsea. He was the beloved husband of Edith (Cohen) Karas of Chelsea.
Born in Chelsea, the devoted son of the late Louis & Gertrude (Krupke) Karas, Mr. Karas was raised & educated in Chelsea where he graduated from Chelsea High School. He was employed for many years by the United States Postal Service at their South Postal Annex facility in South Boston. Mr. Karas retired in 1989. He was proud of his Jewish religion & a member of Congregation Linas Hatzedek, & the Shurtleff St. Shule both in Chelsea, & Cong. 420 of Revere. A lover of music, Mr. Karas was a tenor in the Temple Emmanuel of Chelsea choir for many years. He also enjoyed membership in the Knights of Pythias – Bellingham Lodge & the Jewish Civil Service. In addition to his love of music, Mr. Karas also had a lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox & was thrilled to have the opportunity to witness the end of the 86 year curse when they won the 2004 World Series. Most of all, he loved being a husband, father, & grandfather. His memory will be cherished as a kind man who always taught those he loved that you should give every task in life your very best effort. Mr. Karas was a man of honor & the lessons of life he gifted to those he loved will be remembered forever.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving son daughter-in-law, Dr. Barry & Iris Karas of Longmeadow & his cherished grandchildren, Adam & Lauren Karas of Longmeadow. Mr. Karas was the dear brother of the late Helen Sandler, Sylvia Rosen, & Al Karas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, & great-nephews.
Mr. Karas' funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq) CHELSEA. Rabbi Earl Kideckel will officiate. Memorial observance will be held at his late residence through Thursday evening.
