Marjory Hemenway Klar, 96, died peacefully on Monday, February 04, 2008.
Marge was born on July 17, 1911, in Sheldon, VT, daughter of Arthur and Lillian Hemenway.
She was married to James Shepard Klar for 53 years, until he died in 1985. She is survived by their four children: Carole Vizard Stafford and her husband, James, of Waterford; Walter, of Harwich, MA; James and his wife, Rhonda, of Mansfield, CT and Venice, FL; and Mary Klar and her husband, Ron Murray, of Mystic. Marge is also survived by 8 grandchildren: John and his wife, Diane; Marjory; Valerie; Justin; Andrew; John and his wife, Jackie; Nancy and her husband, John; and Matthew and his wife, Courtney. Sixteen great-grandchildren are her survivors as well. She was pre-deceased by two grandchildren: James W.Klar; and Stacey O’Connor. Marge’s sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Jerry Gray live in St. Joseph, Missouri; three siblings pre-deceased her. Numerous relatives live in Vermont.
Marge was very alert until her health began to give her problems when she was 91. Before that, she had been quite active, playing bridge with friends in Bolton, where she lived for many years, and in Manchester. She had been involved with the Older Adult Association of Manchester Community College for several years, and was a member of their Travel Committee for a number of years, and took in quite a number of trips which she enjoyed. Prior to her husband’s death, the two of them did some traveling in the United States, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and most likely some other places. Other activities Marge liked were: bird-watching; needlework; reading; being a long-standing member of the now defunct Manchester Women’s Club; and entertaining friends.
Burial will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, in Manchester.
