Obituary

Ralph W. Hager, age 100, died on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Meadows Nursing Home in Leicester. Mr. Hager was born in Boylston on December 20, 1907, the son of Charles E. and Mary (Watson) Hager. He attended the Boylston public schools and graduated from Commerce High School, the class of 1925. He later received a degree from the New England School of Accounting and was employed at the Worcester Five Cents Savings Bank until he retired as Executive Vice President in 1973.

Until his death, Ralph Hager was the oldest resident of Boylston and the oldest living past Master and life member of the Boylston Lodge, AF&AM and past District Deputy Grand Master of the Worcester Thirty First Masonic District. He also served as President of the Worcester Kiwanis Club; was a member of the Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce and served as Treasurer as well as Chairman of their Regional Planning Committee. He was Chairman of the Town of Boylston Regional Planning Commission and served on the financial advisory board of the Salvation Army. He was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church of Boylston and served as Superintendant and Sunday School teacher of the Morningdale Chapel.

Besides his wife of 76 years, Margaret L. (Ekman) Hager, he is survived by 3 children: Marilyn E. Mildish of Worcester, Beverly J. Greenough of Auburn and Dr. Jon R. Hager of Adams, NY. He also had 10 grandchildren, one deceased, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grand children. He is pre-deceased by two siblings: Vera Brigham and Charles W. Hager, both of Boylston. During his lifetime, Ralph enjoyed participating in community affairs, golf, travel with his spouse and various recreational activities with his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Boylston First Congregational Church. Burial will follow in the Town of Boylston Pine Grove cemetery. There are no calling hours.
