Helen V. (Vieira) Furtado, 85, of New Bedford died February 1, 2008 at Our Lady's Haven after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late George J. Furtado.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Mary E. (Saraiva) and Manuel G. Vieira, Jr., she lived in New Bedford for all of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.
Mrs. Furtado was formerly employed at St. Luke's Hospital for 20 years until her retirement in order to stay at home and raise her children.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. Furtado and his wife Teresa, of Dartmouth, and Robert A. Furtado and his wife Michelle, of Fairhaven; a sister, Florence V. Marshall, of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Ashley, Kevin, Sarah, and Laurie Furtado.
She was the mother of an infant son who died at birth and sister of the late Joseph A. Vieira.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday, February 5th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, February 4th from 4-8 PM.
