Vera (Crook) Beard, 93, of Mystic, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at the Mystic Manor Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late Ernest Beard.
Born in Chorley, Lancashire, England, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Melling) Crook, she had been a lifelong resident of New Bedford until moving to Connecticut eight years ago.
Mrs. Beard was a graduate of New Bedford High School in Massachusetts. She worked at the New Bedford Hotel and the Kittansett Golf Club for many years. She was also a house mother at the St. Luke's White Home.
She was an avid square dancer with the Mid-Town Twirlers, a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, the African Violet Club of New Bedford, the British Society, WAMS of the YWCA and enjoyed painting.
Survivors include a daughter, M. Alice Paulino of Salem; three sons, Douglas Beard and his wife, Donna, of Lakeville, Mass., Ronald Beard and his wife, Pamela, of Mattapoisett, Mass., and Jon O. Beard, of Taunto, Mass.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Clarence and Leslie Crook and mother-in-law of the late Charles Paulino.
Funeral services were held in Massachusetts.
