Royce C. Williams, 77 of Fitzgerald died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the Irwin County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Pine Level United Methodist Church with Rev. Annette Brooks and Rev. Keithen Tucker officiating. A reading will be done by Delene Clark. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Williams was born September 25, 1930 in Irwin County to the late Clarence Theodore and Hattie Jinks Williams. He lived in the community most of his life and was a former resident of Augusta, GA. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army during the Korean War era. He was a retired farmer and a former employee of Dupont at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken SC. Mr. Williams was a member of Pine Level United Methodist Church and was a former member of Central United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, on the Administrative Board and was chairman of the Evangelism Committee. He was a Mason and a Shriner and had been named Outstanding Young Farmer of The Year, a Soil & Water Conservationist and Corn & Peanut Producer Of The Year. He served five terms on the Ben Hill County School Board and was former chairman of the ASCS committee.
He is survived by his wife, Esther B. Williams of Fitzgerald; children, Steven W. Williams, E. Scott (Karen) Williams and Cheri W. Stone all of Fitzgerald and Lisa W. (Louis) Herrera of Roswell; grandchildren, Emily Williams, Zack Stone, Jake Williams, Elizabeth Stone, Anna Williams, Amelia Herrera and Julia Herrera; brother and sister, Earl Williams of Conyers and Sylvia Woods of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
