Martha LeClaire Parsons Scarbrough, 84, of Ridgeland, MS, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was born May 3, 1923 to the late Oscar T. and Mabel Irene Fulmer Parsons, Sr., and was the widow of Thomas Hudson Scarbrough. Martha Lee was a born-again Christian. Until 2002, when she moved to be near her children in the Jackson, MS area, she attended the First United Methodist Church in Water Valley, MS where she held various responsibilities throughout her life, namely in women’s work, music, and children’s work. She taught 10-12 year olds in Sunday School for eighteen years.
The visitation will be Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS, with Rev. Billy Ray Stonestreet, Rev. Barry Dickerson, and Rev. Bryan Scarbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with Michael A. Scarbrough, B. Scott Sartor, John T. Scarbrough, Brian H. Sartor, Brad T. Sartor, O. Darryl Waltman, Daniel H. Scarbrough, and R. Jeffrey Sartor serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Scarbrough is survived by a daughter, Paula Katherine Scarbrough Sartor and her husband, Michael Gary “Mike” Sartor, of Clinton, MS; a son, Ronald Lee Scarbrough and his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Hardin Scarbrough, of Jackson, MS; 8 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas Hudson Scarbrough, and by a great grandson who bore his name, Thomas Hudson Scarbrough.
Memorials mey be made to the First United Methodist Church in Water Valley or to The Gideons International.
