Syma "Sabina" Gurt, a survivor of the atrocities of the Holocaust, entered into eternal rest on January 30, 2008 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital. She was 85 years old.
Born in Warsaw, Poland on December 15, 1922, Mrs. Gurt was the daughter of the late Moszek & Baila (Goldstajn) Przechacki. She was raised in Warsaw where she lived with her family until being deported during the occupation of World War II. Her parents & 9 brothers & sisters all perished in concentration camps during World War II. A survivor, she returned to Warsaw in 1945 & met her late husband Pinkus Gurt who was also a Holocaust survivor. Together they emigrated from Poland to Israel and then to Paris, France where she spent the majority of her life. After the death of her husband, and in her later years, Mrs. Gurt came to America where she resided with her son, Maurice, in Aventura, FL for 4 years & then with her daughter, Catherine, in Burlington, MA for the past year.
Mrs. Gurt is survived by her son, Maurice Gurt & his wife Colette of Aventura, FL; her daughter, Catherine Goldfarb & her husband Dr. Gary of Burlington; her grandchildren, Richard Goldfarb of Framingham, Gregory Goldfarb of Marlboro, Yael Salomon of Tel Aviv, Israel, Benjamin Gurt of Aventura, FL, & Sarah Weisfeld of N.Y., N.Y; & her great-grandchildren, Evan Phillip Goldfarb of Framingham & Eva & Berry Salomon of Tel Aviv, Israel.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 12:00 Noon in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Avenue (Cary Sq) CHELSEA. Burial will follow in the Montifiore Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Memorial observance will be held in Florida.
