Obituary

WORCESTER__ Sophie M. Kimbar, 87, of Worcester, died Tuesday January 29 in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

She leaves a brother, Henry Kimbar and his wife Nettie, three sisters, Mary T. Conway and her husband, Edward of North Weymouth; Sr. Audrey Kimbar, CSFN, of Philadelphia, PA and Jane Kimbar, a sister-in-law, Dolores Kimbar, a brother-in-law Raymon Kudron and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers, Edward, John, Chester, Joseph, Stanley, Charles and Thomas Kimbar and two sisters, Bertha Kimbar and Christine Kudron. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Alexander and Josephine(Sokolowski) Kimbar.

Miss Kimbar was a Registered Nurse and a Chief Nurse at various veterans’ hospitals prior to retiring in 1977 from the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She was a World War II Veteran serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She was the recipient of a World War II Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Sophie graduated from Commerce High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Boston College and a Masters of Science degree in Nursing from Boston University.

The funeral will be held on Thursday January 31 from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday January 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
