Jesup - Mr.Charles Avery Sloan, age 71, of Jesup, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 in his home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. He was a native of Brantley County and had resided in Jesup for the past 30 years. He had worked in city government and was a retired City of Jesup employee. He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Edward Sloan and Larry Delworth Sloan. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Barbara Sloan; five sons, Donald and Tamara Sloan of Screven, Jerry and Sandra Sloan, William and Billie Jean Sloan, Timothy and Laura Sloan, James and Amy Sloan all of Jesup; three daughters, Laurie and James Glisson of Jesup, Judith and Scott Taverine of Odum, and Joyce and Ricky Woods of Jesup; three sisters, Hilda Collier of Palatka, FL, Hazel Keene of Jesup, and Mattie Creel of Hortense; thirty grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1st, 2008, at 2 pm from the James R. Gordon Memorial Chapel of Howard-Jones-Nobles Funeral Home, with Reverend John Stoddard officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm from the NeSmith Room of Howard-Jones-Nobles Funeral Home.
