Haggerty --- Helen (Qualters), age 97 years, beloved wife of the late John Leo Haggerty, and devoted aunt to John and Jeannette Mathi of North Weymouth; Michael and Jean O’Leary of Millbury; and the late Jeanne Hayes of Boston, died peacefully at the Radius Health Care Home in Millbury, MA. on January 27, 2008. Helen was predeceased by her brother and sisters: Thomas Qualters, Mary (Mathi), Anna (O’Leary), Katherine (Hayes), and Margaret (Mahoney).
Helen was a long time resident of Jamaica Plain, and was involved in numerous activities including the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club, and volunteer work at the former Centre St. Baptist Church. Previously, she had been employed at the former United Drug Company, in administration and as legal Secretary.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Theresa of Avila Chapel, West Roxbury, on Wednesday, January 30th at 10:00am. Friends are invited to attend. At Helen’s request, there are no calling hours.
The above words were composed by Mrs. Haggerty several years ago. The family adds: Helen was a strong and positive force in our lives. She maintained her independent nature and core values to the end. She was thoughtful of others throughout her life, but seldom hesitated to speak her mind. She loved to sing. She missed her husband dearly, and did not dread, in the least, the approaching end of life. Thank you, Helen, for your love, your support, and your presence in our lives. www.lawlerfuneralhome.com
