Lucy (Soares) DaSilva, 81, of New Bedford died Sunday January 27, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Antonio M. "T.J." DaSilva.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Mathias and Julia (Duarte) Soares, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. DaSilva was formerly employed as a presser at Alberta Sportswear.
Survivors include a son, Gene M. Sylvia, Sr. of New Bedford; a brother, Jose Soares of New Bedford; two sisters, Adelia Costa of New Bedford and Frances Barros of Falmouth; five grandchildren, Lisa Sylvia, Yvonne Sylvia, Gene Sylvia Jr., Derek Agnew, and Kenneth Sylvia; a great-granddaughter, Shaylene Lucas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Toni A. DaSilva, and sister of the late Mary Soares and Anna Monteiro.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
