Obituary

Muriel (Livingstone) Whittaker, age 95, a 68-year resident of Winchester, passed away at her home in Winchester on January 26th. Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Margaret (Saunders) Livingstone. Muriel was raised and educated in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. After high school, she obtained her nursing degree at the New England Deaconess School of Nursing. A homemaker, she was the wife of the late Lester G. Whittaker, who for many years owned and operated the Winchester Conservatories, which is now part of Mahoney’s Greenhouses in Winchester. Together they raised their children in Winchester, and enjoyed summers at their home in York Harbor, ME. In her spare time, Muriel enjoyed gardening, especially geraniums and tulips. She also spent time knitting sweaters for everyone in the family. She was mother to the late Lester G. Whittaker, Jr., and is survived by Deborah W. Staber of Norridgewock, ME, and David L. Whittaker of Delray Beach, FL. Mrs. Whittaker is also survived by her grandchildren, Lester G. Whittaker of Barboursville, VA, Sarah Allen of Portsmouth, RI, and Paula Whittaker of Revere. Her two great-grandchildren Stella and Vaughn Whittaker of Barboursville, VA, further survive her. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 1, at 10:00 A.M. in the Parish of the Epiphany Church, 70 Church St., Winchester, MA 01890. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Parish of the Epiphany or to the Winchester Public Library, 80 Washington St.
