TEWKSBURY - Miss Mary J. Furtado, 89, died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 16, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
She was born in Tewksbury, December 28, 1911, a daughter of the late Antonio Jose and Philomena Julia (Figuerado) Furtado.
She lived her entire life as a resident of Tewksbury except for the past two years spent in assisted living at Billerica Crossings.
Although frail in her later years, she maintained her sharp mind and strong spirit to the end of her life.
She worked for the Daniel Reardon Distributers Company in Lowell, and later No. Billerica, retiring after more than 50 years of service.
She was active in St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury and was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.
In her later years, she was active in Senior activities at the Tewksbury Senior Drop-In Center.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Barbara Carter of NY and Dr. David Doiron of Ind.
She was the last survivor of seven children, the late Rose McCoy, Rita Doiron, John, Anthony, Joseph and Manuel Furtado.
Her Funeral Mass was held Thursday, Dec. 20, in St. William’s Church.Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
