Kathleen “Kay” (Costello) Grenier 86, a longtime Dedham resident.
Kathleen “Kay” (Costello) Grenier, 86, of Attleboro, formerly of Dedham, died Friday, January 25, 2007, at home after a long illness.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Francis “Frank” Grenier; devoted mother of Kathleen G. Johnson of Boylston and Margaret A. Ross of Attleboro with whom she lived; loving sister to John W. Costello of Weston and the late Marion T. Costello; caring grandmother to Catherine, Joanna, and Matthew Ross, and Emily and Elizabeth Johnson; loving aunt to Kevin W. Costello of North Andover, Kerry A. and Eileen Costello of Jamaica Plain, Mary M. Connolly of Dedham, the late Patricia Aker Michienzie, and many great nieces and nephews.
Born in Lynn, raised in Jamaica Plain, Kay was an active alumna of the Academy of the Assumption in Wellesley and Framingham State College (’42) and worked for many years for the former Shawmut Bank of Boston.
Kay was the anchor of her close-knit extended family whom she guided with her enduring examples of strength, spirit, and sense of family. She took great joy in helping others and was an active volunteer of Camp Fire USA, the Friends of Endicott Estate, St. Mary's Church in Dedham, and the Boston Aid to the Blind. She loved to travel, play cards, knit, and to spend time engaging her friends and family with her “gift of gab”.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 28th from 4-7:30 p.m. at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 29th from the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Dedham, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Old Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Kay’s memory to Evercare Hospice, 950 Winter St, S3800, Waltham, MA 02451.
