Obituary


NEW BEDFORD — Bruce M. Plummer, age 81 years, of New Bedford, died Thursday, January 24, 2008, at New Bedford Health Care Center. He was the husband of Ruby (Taber) Plummer.

Born in New Bedford, Bruce was the son of the late George T. and Gladys (Whitney) Plummer and a graduate of N. B. High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then was employed in the local Firestone Plant and later Chamberlain Manufacturing for 35 years as a machinist.

Bruce was a member of the old Advent Christian Church and then the Hope Evangelical Church where he served as pastor's assistant, trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and deacon emeritus. He and his family were, well known as the Singing Plummers performing in churches, grange halls, throughout the area. Bruce was a friend to the friendless, a father to the fatherless, a man of faith who let Jesus live through him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rev. Bruce Plummer of Florida and Rev. Donald Plummer of New Hampshire; four daughters, Sharon Marshall of Maine, Marilyn Beaulieu of Acushnet, Lori Jerabek of Florida and Melody Winfrey of North Carolina; his sister, Oreita Smith of Arizona;, 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford. His funeral will be held Monday at 11 A.M. in Hope Evangelical Church, 88 Hathaway Rd., North Dartmouth, followed by burial in Rural Cemetery.
