ANNISQUAM: Walker Mason, Jr., 81, of Annisquam, died Thursday morning, January 24, 2008 in the Den Mar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rockport. He was the husband of Constance (Stoney) Mason.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Walker and Frances (Carter) Mason. He grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and summered in Annisquam his entire life, before moving there permanently in 1987.
He attended Moses Brown School in Providence and Williams College. He served in World War II with the Army Engineers on Saipan. His business career was in sales in the textile industry at Sayles Finishing Co., American Viscose Co., and Providence Braid Co.
Mr. Mason served as a member of the board of the Providence Visiting Nurses Association, and as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Mary C. Wheeler School. He also volunteered at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Constance M. and Michael Waite of Charlottesville, VA, Anne M. and William Kientz of Columbus, OH, Alby M. and Andrew Waugh of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and his son and daughter-in-law, Walker, III and Terri Mason of Westport, CT. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Scott C. and Carolyn Mason of Virginia Beach, VA and eight granddaughters, Carter and Josephine Waite, Virginia and Sarah Kientz, Katheryn, Lydia and Caroline Waugh, and Marion Mason, and one grandson, W. Zachary Mason.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28th in the Annisquam Village Church at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Mt. Adnah Cemetery.
