Rutland—James Gallant, 66, died peacefully Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the home of his mother in Worcester while under the care of UMass Memorial Hospice. He leaves his mother, Alice Gallant of Worcester; a brother Joseph (John) Gallant, Jr., of Auburn, ME; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Toney and his father Joseph (John) Gallant, Sr. He was born in Mexico, Maine, son of Alice and Joseph (John) Gallant, Sr. He lived in the Worcester area since 1952. Mr. Gallant was employed by Smith Valve and O.S. Walker. He was a graduate of Boys Trade. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, camping, and playing horseshoes. He had many other varied hobbies including square dancing, bowling, and playing cards.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima, 43 Belmont Street, Worcester on Saturday, January 26, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to UMass Memorial Hospice, PO Box 2795, Worcester MA 01613-9938.
