WEBSTER - Benny A. Sabaj, 88, of 43 Upland Ave., died Thursday, January 24, in Hubbard Regional Hospital after being stricken ill. His wife of 24 years, Dorothy P. (Plante) Sabaj, died in 1972.
He leaves a daughter, Patricia A. Bonnette and her husband Gerard K. of Webster; a brother, Frank Sabaj of Webster; 4 sisters, Michalena “Nellie” Swierzbin, Helen Kralik and Dorothy Szymczak, all of Webster, and Rita Kubik of Dudley; nephews and nieces.
He was born in Webster, the son of Felix and Veronica (Mrzyglod) Sabaj and was a lifelong resident.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in Italy and Central Europe.
Mr. Sabaj was a laborer for several construction companies, retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Joseph Basilica. He enjoyed growing his annual vegetable garden and fishing. He was an devoted Red Sox fan.
The funeral will be held Saturday, January 26, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Saturday in the funeral home..
