WEBSTER – Janet S. (Saunders) Brown, 93, of 23 Nelson St., died Thursday, January 24, at home surrounded by her family. Her husband of 58 years, W. James Brown, died in 1999.
She leaves a son, William J. Brown, Jr. and his wife Jill of Woburn and a daughter, Anne M. Brown, with whom she lived. She was preceded in death by her sisters Esther Saunders in 1963 and Mary G. Saunders in 2006.
She was born in Webster, a daughter of Dr. Thomas H. and Anna (Mullan) Saunders and was a lifelong resident. She was the last surviving member of the first graduating class of the new Saint Louis High School in 1931. She graduated from Bryant College in Providence with a Bachelors Degree in Secretarial Science.
Mrs. Brown first worked as a secretary for the president of the First National Bank, later Guaranty Bank. Then, she was the secretary for Brown Plumbing and Heating which was operated by her husband until they retired.
She was a member of Saint Louis Church and the Saint Louis League of Catholic Women. She belonged to the Bryant Alumni Association. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and their travels took them to Hawaii and to Ireland, to Maine and to many other places. Her favorite was her annual trip to Cape Cod in the summertime. She was a Red Sox fan, enjoyed being at parties, and loved reading until macular degeneration kept her from her books.

The funeral will be held Monday, January 28, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 Monday morning before the Mass.
