Obituary

John E. Sample of Springfield, VT formerly of Dedham, died January 21, 2008 in Vermont. He was 58. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Loughlin) Sample.

Born in Brookline, he was the son of Howard M. Sample and Alice Girard Sample. He was a graduate of Dedham High School 1967. He was a talented musician who played clarinet and saxophone in a local big band, marching band and orchestra. He was an avid drummer and was a founding member of several local bands including the "Midnight Sunz" and "Who ate the Apple." He was eventually awarded a full scholarship to Berkley school of music, which he turned down to pursue a successful cabinetry career.

In his early twenties as a Union Carpenter, he won an International Cabinetry Competition. He then founded Capri Kitchens, in Plymouth which he owned and operated until 1989.

John was avid radio control helicopter enthusiast.

He spent his last few years in Springfield, Vermont with his wife Joan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father Howard Sample and his companion Helen Knight of Wareham, two sons, Todd Sample of NY and Daniel Sample and his wife Jennie Coull Sample of VA and three stepchildren, James, Robert and Liz. He was the brother of Linda Sample Konow and her husband Steve of CT, Sue Sample Caci and her husband Frank of IA, and Robert Sample and his wife Karol-Ann of Scituate. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, Friday at 8 AM with a funeral mass in St. Susanna’s Church, Dedham, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment will follow in Knollwood memorial park, Canton. Visiting hours on Thursday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
