PROVIDENCE — Elizabeth L. MacDonald, age 96, of The Village at Waterman Lake in Greenville, R.I., and formerly of New Bedford, died Friday, January 18, 2008 at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the wife of the late Dr. Milton T. MacDonald, a prominent New Bedford surgeon, who died in 1973.
Born in Concordia, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Russell (Smith) Haskins. A registered nurse, she often assisted in her husbands medical office. In past years she was an active member of Pilgrim United Church, a volunteer with St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and the YWCA "next to new shop" and an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her son, M. Murdock MacDonald and his wife, Lynda of Acushnet; her daughter, Betsey D. MacDonald and her husband, Dr. Al Perrini of Clayville, R.I.; her sister, Mary Margaret Brown of Freetown, Ma; eight grandchildren, Lisa Segalas and Laurie, Duncan, Brendan, Seamus, Murdock, Heather and Jared MacDonald; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and three nieces, Mary Edwards, Betty Childs and Eleanor Chace. She was the mother of the late Dr. D. Duncan MacDonald and sister of the late Lida Haskins.
Her private funeral arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford.
