Mr. Walter D. Colby of East Wakefield, N.H. and Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Medford, beloved husband of Nancy A. (Dyer) died at his home in Palm Harbor, Florida on Wednesday, January 2, 2008. He was 72 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on December 4, 1934, he was a beloved son of the late Arthur and Loretta (Sullivan) Colby. Mr. Colby was employed by Atlantic Cement in Charlestown as operating manager for 25 years, prior to his retirement. He enjoyed building and fixing everything around his house and for his friends and children. In his spare time, Mr. Colby enjoyed fishing and spending time at his lake house in East Wakefield, New Hampshire. He also loved his 1958 Chris Craft antique boat. Above all, he was a very devoted husband, father and friend.
He was the loving father of David M. and his wife Kathleen J. Colby of Medford, Alan W. Colby and his wife Michelle Brown of Cambridge, Kristin A. Colby of Cambridge, Walter D., Jr. and his wife Gina M. Colby of Amherst, N.H. and Sarah J. and her husband Phillip J. Chandler of Cambridge. Cherished grandfather of Jessica, Jonathan, Joshua, Corey, Nathan, Madison, Paige and Elliot. Devoted brother of Robert E. Colby of Dracut and the late Arthur F. Colby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Tuesday, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were Monday, from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
