Constance S. Mendes, 82, of Norton died on Saturday January 19, 2008 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Mendes, Jr. who passed away on February 21, 1997.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on October 18, 1925 she was a daughter of the late Edward and Elisa (Rodrigues) Sousa.
Educated in Madeira, Mrs. Mendes had worked as a Jewelry Assembler for the Swank Co. in Attleboro for over 35 years prior to retiring.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton she was also a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s Club and was a former member of the Ladies of the Forrest. Connie enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, seamstress work and gardening. She had made her home in Norton for the past 58 years.
She is survived by her devoted children; Mary D. Dyer and her husband Larry of Nassau Bay, Texas and Anna M. Mendes- O’Leary and her husband Michael of Charlton, her sisters Natividad Ferreira and Felisbela Ferreira, also survived by her grandchildren Scott L. Dyer of Virginia, Christopher A. Dyer, MD of Iowa and Alyssa O’Leary of Charlton, also her great grandson Joseph Lawrence Dyer of Virginia.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday January 23rd at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, South Worcester St., Norton. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Taunton
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday January 22nd from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
