Obituary

Mildred C. Glaza, 89, of Mystic, passed away on Saturday, January 19th, 2008 after a long battle with cancer and macular degeneration.

She was born at a Coast Guard station at Grand Marais, Michigan on February 26, 1918. Her parents were Commander Anthony F. Glaza, USCG and Winifred I. (Tucker) Glaza. Starting with her maternal grandfather the male members of her family served a total of about 240 years in the Coast Guard.

She attended schools in Michigan, Minnesota, and New York, graduating from Bennett High School in Buffalo, NY at the age of 15. She then attended business and secretarial school before going to work. Her working career in business spanned about 25 years with several companies. She then organized and managed a child care group for another 20 years, after which she lived with and looked after her mother in Western Springs, Illinois.

She moved to Mystic in 1992 to be near her various family members in this area.

Mildred was predeceased by her younger sister, Ruth, in 1980. She is survived by two younger brothers, Anthony of Port Orchard, Washington and Charles “Chuck” of Mystic. Also by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grandnieces and nephews both in the local area and in Michigan, Colorado, California, Florida, and Oregon.

Services will be private and a memorial will be scheduled for a later date.

Her family suggests donations to the Society for the Blind in New London or the American Cancer Society.
