Obituary

Richard E. Cummings, Sr., 68 of 25 High St., formerly of Rochdale,
died Wednesday, Jan. 16 at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester after a long
illness.
He leaves his wife of 11 years, Paula M. (Ekstrom) Sciascia Cummings, three
sons Richard E. Cummings, Jr. and his wife Denise of Georgia, Bruce P.
Cummings of No.Brookfield, and Andrew Cummings., a step daughter Gina M.
Warren and her husband Joel of Spencer, a step son Ronald F. Sciascia, Jr.
and his wife Tina of Leicester, two brothers David Cummings of Palmer and
Robert Cummings and his wife Josephine of Rutland, a sister Judith A.
Hastings of Spencer, 12 grand children, several nieces and nephews. He is
predeceased by his son Mark A. Cummings in 2001.
Richard was a furniture salesman at Rotman's Furniture in Worcester for over
20 years, before retiring last April. Previously he worked at Howe Lumber in
No.Brookfield, and also sold life insurance for The Equitable Life Insurance
Co. in Worcester where he was a District Manager.
He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in Japan as an
M.P. He was a member of the Marine Corps League-Detachment 1094 in
Southbridge.
He was an avid baseball fan and at onetime was a "rookie" for the Washington
Senators during the late 1950's. Dick enjoyed playing golf and especially
cherished his grand children.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Richard and Marguerita (Aiken) Cummings
and lived in Rochdale for 11 years before moving to Spencer last year. He
graduated from No.Brookfield High School.
The family would like to thank the many Doctors and Nurses who helped and
cared for Dick, especially Drs. Richard Angoff, Clifford Browning and their
associates at the Cardiology Consultants of Worcester. Also, the many
friends of Rotman's who showed love and concern for #12.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 21 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON
FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's
Church, 296 Main St., No.Brookfield. Burial will follow in St. Joseph
Cemetery, No.Brookfield. Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 20 from 5 to 8p.m.
