John J. Bourisk, Jr., 71
WORCESTER—John J. Bourisk, Jr., 71, of 84 Standish Street, a business owner and consultant, died Friday, January 24, in University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Barbara M. (Peters) Bourisk; a daughter, Sheryl A. Bourisk-Minda of Ashland; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A son, John J. Bourisk, III, died in 1992.
Mr. Bourisk was born in Lewiston, Maine, son of John J. and Nellie (Haddad) Bourisk and lived in Worcester for the past 47 years. He graduated from Lewiston High School and received a B.S. degree in business from Norwich University in 1954.Mr. Bourisk also served as an officer in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Bourisk was founder and owner of J. & B. Associates of Worcester. Previously he owned and operated several Worcester businesses including Hammond Shoe Corporation, Z.W.T. Tours, Coastal Energy, and Scotty Car Wash franchise.
Mr. Bourisk was a member and served on the Board of Directors of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. He was a member of its Men’s Club, the Syrian Brotherhood Orthodox Society, and the Antioch Square and Compass Club.
He was a long-time supporter and fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and served on the ALSAC-St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Boards of Directors and Governors since 1992. He recently was elevated to Emeritus status.
Mr. Bourisk, along with his father, John J. Bourisk, Sr., created and organized the St. Jude fundraising activities in the State of Maine, including the St. Jude fundraisers in Lewiston which began in the 1970’s and continues today.
He was a member of Aleppo Shrine and was a 32-degree mason. He also was a member of the Worcester Elks.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Monday, January 27, and 10:30-11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the cathedral. A Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on January 27, in the cathedral.
