Obituary

WORCESTER – John A. Scanlon, Jr., 52, of 6 Belisle Ave., died Monday, January 14, in UMass/Memorial Healthcare University Campus, Worcester.

He leaves 2 sons, John A. Scanlon, III and his wife Kathryn of Oakham, and Joshua E. Scanlon of Worcester; his father, John A. Scanlon, Sr. of Worcester; 4 sisters, Barbara Scanlon of Fall River, Kathy Ortiz of Worcester, Pat Scanlon of Florida and Caroline Scanlon of Worcester; several aunts and uncles; Kathy Tower of Worcester; and his unborn granddaughter, Kaylee Jennifer Scanlon.

He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Irene (Donovan) Scanlon.

Mr. Scanlon worked at Morgan Construction and then was a self-employed carpenter and painter. He was a coach for the Tris Speaker Little League and the Burncoat Babe Ruth team. Under his leadership his teams played in the All Stars games. He enjoyed woodworking, yard sales, antiquing, bowling, playing cards and had a great love of blues music.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 22, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Louis Church, 15 Lake St., Webster. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, January 21, in the funeral home.
