Fairhaven –Irene (Souza) Richmond aged 87 died Wednesday January 16, 2008 at Alden Court Nursing Care& Rehabilitation Center. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel R. Richmond. Mrs. Richmond was the mother of Richard G. Richmond and his wife Ann of Acushnet, Dianne Roderick and her husband Raymond of New Bedford, and Wayne B. Richmond of New Bedford and a sister-in-law Alice Tavares of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Mary Mattos, Hilda Pacheco, and Joseph Souza. She was the grandmother of the late Kelly Elizabeth Richmond. She is also survived by 7grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren by several nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Mrs. Richmond was the daughter of the late Manuel and Emily (Botelho) Souza. She was born in New Bedford and has lived in this area all of her life. She was formerly a waitress at Shawmut Diner. She was a member of the South End Golden Agers, often frequented the Buttonwood Seniors Community Center.
Mr. Richmond’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., Saturday at 9:30 A.M., with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4 - 7 P.M.
