Naomi "Mimi" LaBrie, 89, a resident of the highland section of Lowell, died Wednesday, January 9, at a local healthcare facility in Lowell.
She was born in Lowell, Jan. 3, 1919, daughter of the late Cyrille and Noemi (Dessureault) LaBrie.
Naomi graduated from Lowell High School in 1936 and then started her career working in the Silk Mills of Lowell. She then worked at the LaBrie Market in the highland section of the city, a family owned and run business. Before retiring in 1981, she dedicated 27 years as an office manager at Byam Brothers Mahoney Ins. Company in Lowell.
Naomi was a communicant of St. Margaret's Parish and the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish of Lowell. She was a member of St Margaret's Ladies Sodality and was also a longtime member of the Women's Night-time League at the Rialto Bowling Lanes, Lowell.
Naomi was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed football. She also enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, mastering hundreds of crossword puzzles and especially enjoyed spending time at her summer home in York Beach, Maine.
Music was her love as music was always the highlight of family gatherings. She spent hours playing opera tunes on the piano and enjoyed playing duets with her late sisters Annette Monette and Mary LaBrie.
She is survived by one nephew, Maurice L. Monette and partner Jeff Jackson, of CA and Mexico; two nieces, Jeanne T. Yorke of Los Lunas, NM and Michele A. McClellan and fiance Mark Anderson, both of Lowell; four great nephews, Bill R. McClellan and his girlfriend Sue Brooks, Kevin McClellan and his fiance Kerry Sheehan and her daughter Kayleigh, Hugh McGowan and wife, Julie and son Collin and Sean McGowan and Lisa; She was also the longtime dear friend of the late Catherine Dunlay who's family took Naomi in as one of their own and shared many memorable times. Among those family members they include Tommy O'Connor and his late wife Helen, Jackie and Tommy Cryan, all of Lowell, Kim and Chuck Peck, Tommy and Wendi Cryan Jr , Judy and Mustapha Ahrikienchikh all of York, Maine, Sharon and Ernie Perry, of Dracut, Pat and Ken Simmons, of Connecticut; also many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Gabrielle Cartwright, Florence LaBrie, Amaryllis LaBrie, the Rev. Lionel LaBrie OMI, Rev. Real LaBrie OMI.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOE, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Sunday, Jan. 13 from 2 to 6pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 9:30am at St. Margaret Church, Lowell. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
