
LOWELL- Anthony J. Polonis, 80 years old, a resident of Cape Cod and Florida, died unexpectedly, Tuesday afternoon, January 8th, at the Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Crandall) Polonis, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage in May of 2007.
He was born in Mechanicville, NY, on June 3, 1927, a son of the late Michael T. and Pauline (Tranauskus) Polonis, and was educated in the Mechanicville Schools.
Mr. Polonis served in the United States Army during World War II. For over 34 years, he was employed as a Chemical Operator in the Silicone Operations Division of General Electric, in Waterford, NY. He was an active conservationist and outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was well known for his unique sense of humor and devotion to family.
Surviving him are three daughters: Linda Rohrer, and her husband Timothy, of Lowell; Linda MacLeod, of Latham, NY; and Dr. Victoria Polonis, of Silver Spring, MD; two sons: Daniel Polonis, of Chicopee; and Robert Polonis, of Port Charlotte, FL; three sisters: Pauline Buononato, of Stillwater, NY; Nellie Mokay, of Meridale, NY; and Marie Chambers, of Niantic, CT; a brother: Edward Polonis, of Mechanicville, NY; six grandchildren: Sean Rohrer, Seth Rohrer, Meghan Van Aken, Aimee LaLiberte Robert MacLeod, and Siobhan MacLeod; five great-grandchildren: Dylan MacLeod, Julia Van Aken, Natalie Van Aken, Christopher Van Aken, and Grace LaLiberte; also many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late William Polonis, Joseph Polonis, and Anne Hayner.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, January 11th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered on Saturday, January 12th at 11:30 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Cremation to follow.
